Lena Dunham will be a Planned Parenthood doctor for Halloween

Actress Lena Dunham has struggled with Halloween for 29 years.

So this year, she plans to “win big,” and go as “something newsy, sexy, and cool: a Planned Parenthood doctor.”

In Tuesday’s edition of her Lenny Letter newsletter, Dunham announced her costume choice after revealing all her past Halloween disappointments, including ill-fated “mermaid-fairy,” Medusa, a “showgirl” and Louis C.K. outfits.

“I have spent 29 years failing at Halloween,” the “Girls” star wrote. “I have never been cooed at, kissed, or celebrated for my wit and style on Halloween.”

But this year, she says she has “finally nailed it.”

Dunham is a strong supporter of Planned Parenthood. Early this month, at a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood in Los Angeles, she took off the sweater she was wearing, which had an image of the woman’s reproductive system, and auctioned it off for $4,000 to benefit the embattled women's health organization.

She also led a social media campaign last year with other celebrity women who posted pictures of themselves wearing Planned Parenthood T-shirts, encouraging all women to vote in the elections last November and fight for their rights. Republicans in Congress have been campaigning for months defund Planned Parenthood after controversial, heavily-edited videos were released this summer, which featured company employees discussing the use of fetal tissue for research purposes.

Planned Parenthood is currently being investigated by Congress over its use of federal funding, the organization has steadfastly denied using government money to provide abortions or any other kind of misappropriation.
