K.I.N.D. fund nears new milestone

Updated

We really appreciate your support for Kids In Need Of Desks, our show’s joint program with UNICEF. We’ve mentioned some of you on the show and tried to send personal thank you emails. It’s hard to keep up with your outpouring of generosity. You truly amaze us.

Just four shopping days left before Christmas, the Last Word’s K.I.N.D. fund is nearing the $3 million fundraising mark. As of show time last night, we raised $2,954,042 to outfit classrooms in Malawi with school desks. The fund helps to improve the educational experience for these kids and it creates local jobs, as these desks are hand-made by local craftsmen in Africa.

Every little bit helps. Can you forgo that grande mocha coffee concoction today and donate that $5 you saved to the KIND fund? (There are no calories in charitable giving!) Maybe instead of going to the movies this week, you could use that money towards some desks. It makes for a great holiday present — we’ll even send that person an e-card to notify them of your gift.

A donation of $48 buys one desk, which seats at least two children. And $720 buys an entire classroom of desks. Find out how you can get involved by visiting LastWordDesks.msnbc.com or by calling 1-800-FOR-KIDS to donate.
