Joe Scarborough predicts a futuristic moderate GOP - without cuts to education

Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough on Tuesday praised Jeb Bush's recent comments on the Republican Party's ill-advised move toward partisanship and extremism.

Bush, the former governor of Florida, was immediately attacked by fellow Republicans for being off-message and Grover Norquist, founder of the Republicans' "I won't raise taxes" pledge, called his remarks "bizarre" and criticized his father, former President George H.W. Bush, for raising taxes during his term.

Scarborough, known as a moderate Republican has a message for them: "Just shut the hell up."

"If I'm going on mTrade and trying to figure out if the future of the Republican Party belongs to Grover Norquist, who I know and like, or the Jeb Bushes of the world, I’m pretty confident Jeb wins," he said during Tuesday's Morning Joe, which included guest Bill Daley, former White House chief of staff (pictured in video after the jump).

He continued on to describe what that futuristic Republican Party looks like.

"Jeb Bush’s Republican Party is the party of the future.  I don’t compare myself to Jeb but Joe Scarborough’s Republican Party is the party of the future. We’re gonna take care of long-term debt. We’re going to be responsible on Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid. Our goal is going to be to have GDP 19% of how much we spent on government. We’re going to keep taxes as low as possible," Scarborough said. "I tell you what we’re not going to do. We’re not going to cut infrastructure for the next 50 years, we’re not going to cut R&D for the next 50 years, we’re not gonna cut education for the next 50 years. We’re going to spend. We’re going to hold government accountable. We’re not going to allow teachers’ unions to keep wrecking public classrooms...

"Now everybody’s calling Jeb Bush a RINO [Republican-in-name-only]? Just shut the hell up. You can stay in your mother’s basement, you can eat your Cheetos, you can type on your laptop…but you are not the future of the Republican Party. Our day is coming. When that party re-emerges, oh my god, the following they will get from swing voters."
