How a supercomputer sees the State of the Union
In which State of the Union was President Obama’s most extraverted? What about least trusting? Short of rewatching all of his State of the Union addresses, the answers are anyone’s guess.
But thanks to Watson, IBM’s “Jeopardy”-winning supercomputer, we can now examine a speaker’s personality traits, values, and needs – all just from textual analysis. What follows are the outputs from having Watson analyze State of the Union speeches going all the way back to President Bush’s first address in 2001.
The biggest takeaway? This year’s State of the Union was surprisingly on-trend with the patterns established by previous speeches.
