In what could be one of the most bizarre political accusations of election season, an Oklahoma man who lost a congressional primary on Tuesday against Rep. Frank Lucas is charging his opponent “is no longer alive and has been displayed by a look alike.”
Tim Murray, a Republican who garnered 5.2% of the votes and came in third place, says he plans to contest the race. He wrote a letter to the Oklahoma State Election Board saying it “is widely known that Frank D. Lucas is no longer alive and has been displayed by a look alike.”
He contends on his website that in 2011 Lucas and “a few other Oklahoma and other state’s congressional members” were executed in southern Ukraine. Lucas is currently the chair of the House Agriculture Committee.
An election board official told NBC that they received the letter, but in order to contest the results Murray must file a formal petition.
Lucas told KFOR TV in Oklahoma City that while many things have been said about him, “this is the first time I’ve ever been accused of being a body double or a robot.”
Stacey Buck, a spokeswoman for Lucas told NBC that the congressman is "alive and well," and that "he has never been to Ukraine."
