Elizabeth Warren to get new Senate leadership post

Updated

Sen. Elizabeth Warren will serve as a Senate liaison to groups in her party’s liberal base, taking on a newly created leadership role in the Democratic caucus, according to an aide familiar with the discussions.

Warren, a prolific fundraiser and campaigner who is popular with progressives for her tough stances against Wall Street, will likely focus on policy ideas in the new role.

Democrats are meeting behind closed doors Thursday to elect their new leaders.

Warren, who is from Massachusetts, is often discussed as a possible viable primary challenger to Hillary Clinton, although she has repeatedly stated that she is not running for president.
