Economy added modest 80,000 jobs in June

Updated

The U.S. economy added a disappointing 80,000 jobs in June, the Labor Department reported Friday morning. The unemployment rate was unchanged at 8.2 percent.

After several positive economic indicators in recent weeks, analysts had predicted a somewhat higher jobs total. With Congress likely to block any significant economic stimulus measures, similarly tepid increases are expected for the rest of the year.
