Donald Trump says he wants Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to apologize for claiming that he was "becoming ISIS's best recruiter."
"I will demand an apology from Hillary. She should apologize," he told TODAY's Matt Lauer on Monday. "She lies about emails, she lies about Whitewater, she lies about everything. She will be a disaster about everything as president of the United States."
Over the weekend, Trump fired back at his Democratic rival for claiming that Trump was "becoming ISIS's best recruiter," saying Islamic extremists were using Trump's comments about Muslims and Islam as a recruiting tool.
"They are going to people showing videos of Donald Trump insulting Islam and Muslims in order to recruit more radical jihadists," Clinton said.
Trump initially dismissed the claim by calling Clinton a "liar," "weak," and other insults while on "Meet the Press" on Sunday.
"Nobody has been able to back that up. It's nonsense. It's just another Hillary lie," he said. "She lies like crazy about everything, whether it's trips where she was being gunned down in a helicopter or an airplane, she's a liar and everybody knows that. But she just made this up in thin air."
On TODAY, Trump defended his attack, criticizing Clinton's history in public office.
"She's been a mess no matter where she's been. She's created a mess, you look at her record as secretary of state," he said.
Lauer also asked whether it was fair for Trump to attack Clinton's ISIS claim for lacking proof when fact checkers have said the same about Trump's assertion that Muslims in New Jersey celebrated the fall of the World Trade Center building on September 11.
Trump insisted on Monday "there is proof because many people saw that happen."
"I've been totally exonerated from that. I've heard headlines exonerating me and saying Trump was right," he said, making specific reference to a conservative website. "There's many, many, many witnesses."
