Signing off from Hardball tonight, Chris Matthews said that we are watching a “strange” election unfold. Voters will be choosing between President Obama, “one fella we know,” and on the other side…”good question.”

Romney is a chameleon, Matthews said. Once a Massachusetts moderate, Romney has now gone hard right. On the personal side, the candidate says “strange things” and has an “odd manner.” He evades questions about how he made his millions.

The Romney campaign is simply hoping the economy tanks and that their man is “the guy we end up with when nothing else is around,” Matthews said. “Sorta like going to Denny’s.”
