Google honoring civil rights activist Cesar Chavez on what would have been his 86th birthday stirred up controversy among conservatives Sunday.

The likes of Glenn Beck and former Bush White House spokeswoman Dana Perino argued that it was disrespectful to honor Chavez, instead of celebrating Easter, with the doodle.

During his career as a labor activist, Chavez advocated for the rights of migrant farm workers. Along with Dolores Huerta, Chavez founded the United Farm Workers and led a historic five-year California grape-picker strike. Chavez's activism was seen as instrumental in the development of the Chicano and Latin American civil rights movement in the United States.

Cool for Google to not celebrate Easter but really?!!? Go to google.com.HAPPY Caesar Chavez day everybody! #HELIVES!— Glenn Beck (@glennbeck) March 31, 2013

I thought the Chavez-google thing was a hoax or an early April Fool's Day prank...are they just going to leave that up there all day?— Dana Perino (@DanaPerino) March 31, 2013

The last time Google illustrated an Easter doodle was in 2000, TechCrunch reported.
