A day before the New Hampshire primary, presidential hopefuls Jeb Bush and Donald Trump rehashed their ongoing public feud. The latest developments in the back-and-forth took place Monday on “Morning Joe,” where Bush was asked about Trump. “I find it remarkable, when you have the chance to talk about his temperament, as Ted Cruz was, and he totally ignored it … when Marco Rubio had a chance to say that Trump is not a conservative – which he is not – he totally ignored it. I mean, you don’t want to bully that way.”
Bush was later asked to pick one word that he associated with Trump. His response? “Loser.”
The former Florida governor also took to Twitter to take the jab further, reviving the comments that Trump previously made about Sen. John McCain. At a Family Leadership Summit last July, Trump said McCain was “not a war hero.” Trump then followed up by saying, “He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured, OK?”
Trump subsequently called in to “Morning Joe” and addressed Bush’s comments.
“He’ll say that I said things and that I never said. I never called John McCain a loser. You know that. I like John McCain. He’s a nice guy. I never called him a loser. The other man I supposedly called a loser, I don’t even know who it is, I never – I don’t know who the man is. Jeb is mixing things up … He is a stiff who you wouldn’t hire in private enterprise.”
Trump proceeded to attack Bush for his past support of Common Core, as well as his past remark that immigrants who come to the United States illegally do so as an “act of love” for their families. The business mogul continued to criticize Bush, saying that his financial assets have not reaped tangible returns in the polls.
“He will spend $100 million on ads, spent $25 million on negative ads on me and every time he does a negative ad, my poll numbers go up. It’s a weird thing. But the guy’s a total stiff. He’s not going to win … Jeb is weak on immigration and Common Core. He wants it 100 percent. And just those two items he can’t do very well. But he’s got to go around and stop lying because I never called John McCain a loser. Really, really sad when you have to say that.”
