Nick Gordon, the young man who has become something of a lightning rod at the center of the tragic Bobbi Kristina Brown saga, on Wednesday released a statement defending his actions following her near-drowning.

While Bobby Brown and other relatives of he and the late singer Whitney Houston's daughter have insisted that Gordon was not married to Bobbi Kristina and has not visited her at the hospital, his reps say he's staying away for the good of decorum.

"Nick has been trying, privately, to do everything he can to see Bobbi Kristina cooperatively," Gordon's attorneys Randall M. Kessler and Joe S. Habachy said in a statement.

"He has respected the family's wishes and for that reason alone has not returned to the hospital and risked a public confrontation," the statement continued. "But he desperately wants to be with the one he loves and continues to hope that his request will be granted."

Various rumors and unconfirmed reports have been swirling ever since Brown, 21, was put into a medically induced coma after she was found unresponsive in a bathtub at her suburban Atlanta home on Jan. 31 — describing friction between her blood relatives and Gordon.

Until now, his representatives had not directly commented on his efforts to see her.
