Former President Bill Clinton joined Comedy Central's The Daily Show Thursday night where he and host Jon Stewart discussed his speech at the Democratic National Convention earlier this month.

Stewart lavished praise upon Clinton, calling it a "bracing speech," which smartly used—Jon Stewart deadpan face—"facts" and "numbers."

"I worked so hard on that for weeks and weeks and weeks," responded Clinton.

Clinton explained he wanted to set the right tone for the speech that would simplify the message without talking down to voters. He also tossed in a joke or two during the interview.

"I have a wife with a traveling job, so I'm home alone a lot," Clinton said in reference to his wife Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. "I have the time now to spend an hour or two trying to work this out."
