Axelrod responds to Booker: 'He was just wrong'

Newark Mayor Cory Booker’s comment that he found an Obama campaign ad “nauseating” continues to reverberate today.

David Axelrod, senior adviser to President Obama’s re-election campaign, praised Booker as a mayor but said, “on this particular instance he was just wrong.”

“When Governor Romney offers his business experience as his chief credential for running for office… it behooves us to ask exactly what did you do, and some of these cases are disturbing and deserve to be looked at,” Axelrod said during an interview on Andrea Mitchell Reports.

The Republican National Convention (RNC) is capitalizing on the gaffe. It started an “I Stand with Cory,” petition earlier today and is advertising it on Twitter.

Sean Spicer, communications director at the RNC, told Lean Forward that it has “thousands” of signatures so far. Unsurprising, it did not coordinate with Booker, a surrogate for the Obama campaign, on the effort.
