If you decided to ditch the last hour of Morning Joe in favor of the TODAY show to see Meredith Vieira’s big send off…well, we can forgive you. But just this once.
But you’re not allowed to change the channel again. Yes, that means even if another one of their anchors leaves.
And if you did switch over, you no doubt saw the impressively huge, Michel Gondry-esque and Goodfellas-ish finale involving a whole lotta people lip-sync, run and jump to a certain muscle rock classic tune by undisputed muscle rock legends Journey.
And if you paid close enough attention during the big build of the second verse and just before the Al Roker hand off, you saw a certain man proudly don a headband and wristbands and sing some of those karaoke-staple lyrics. Ladies and gentleman, that man was Willie Geist.
We can’t give you the video, but we can give you some fairly pixelated image stills of Willie and what appears to be Tamron Hall and Jeff Rossen joyfully jogging with Vieira. The whole production was pretty awe-inspiring, and we even got a little misty-eyed in the control room (Ok..of course we took a look at it, too). Kudos to you Willie for making a bright orange shirt and matching accoutrements over a suit look totally acceptable.
Congrats Meredith and take care!
P.S. Abe Vigoda!
