Michael Phelps swam into history claiming a silver medal in the 200m Butterfly and gold in the 4x200m Freestyle relay,with Lochte, Dweyer, and Berens. He becomes the most decorated Olympian of all time with 19 career medals. In the 200m Freestyle final, Allison Schmitt clinched the gold. In Women’s Field Hockey, the United States clinched a win over Argentina with a score of 1-0 in the qualifying round.
And for the first time since the “Magnificant Seven” won gold in the 1996 Atlanta games, the US Women’s Gymnastics Team, best known as the “Fab Five,” clinched gold in the team finals. They beat rival Russia by more than five points.
Coming up Wednesday, Americans Welz and Burckle will compete in Men’s Swimming 200m Breaststroke and Adams will compete in the Women’s Swimming 200m Butterfly. USA Women are the favored contenders in today’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay.
In Men’s Gymnastics, Orozco and Leyva compete for the podium in today’s Individual All-Around competition.
In the fifth day of competition, there are a total of 20 medal events today. The US and China are still tied for the top spot of the Games’medal count with 23 medals each, followed by Japan with 13 total medals.
