A new round of storms raced through the Midwest yesterday, killing at least nine people across Oklahoma, Kansas, and Arkansas.

Officials report the latest deaths in Arkansas, where rescue efforts are underway. A tornado reportedly ripped through Franklin and Johnson counties. The weather was particularly violent in Oklahoma, where twisters obliterated cars and neighborhoods and pushed hundreds out of their homes.

Meanwhile, emergency crews are continuing to search through the debris in Joplin, Missouri, in hopes of finding more survivors after a deadly tornado devastated the town on Sunday. A staggering 1,500 people are still missing, and residents are now bracing for more grim news. So far, Joplin say teams have found a total of nine survivors, but the death toll stands at more than 120.
