Herman Cain is now responding to a Politico report that alleges at least two female employees complained of inappropriate behavior by Cain while he was the head of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s. NBC News can now confirm the accusations and that at least one woman received a financial settlement.   As Cain and his campaign try to clear his name, his damage control has been a bit inconsistent. Sunday, the Cain campaign denied the harassment claims all-together but yesterday the Republican Presidential candidate responded for himselfadmitting that he was in fact accused. Cain spent the day traveling around Washington, giving his side of the story. Speaking at the National Press Club, the former Godfathers Pizza CEO dismissed the claims against him as false. He said, “In all of my over 40 years of business experience… I have never sexually harassed anyone… I am unaware of any sort of settlement.”

But just hours later, in a taped interview with Fox News, Cain changed his course, admitting that he was aware of a settlement with his accuser.  When confronted by reporters and asked about the discrepancies in his story , Cain said that he can’t remember everything that happened 12 years ago. Meanwhile, the right is coming to Herman Cain’s defense, claiming that the allegations against him are unfair and not newsworthy.  Rush Limbaugh calls the Politico story a “hit job” and accuses reporters of using ugly racial stereotypes.   And another conservative radio host, Laura Ingraham, called for the  “occupation of Politico”, claiming the website destroyed Cain’s reputation.
