The space shuttle Endeavour lifted off for the last time today for a 16-day mission to the International Space Station. The six person crew is due at the ISS on Wednesday, and according to this story, the specific aim of the mission is to "deliver an ambitious cosmic ray particle detector and a shipment of backup hardware for the orbiting laboratory."

It was a big day for other reasons as well. The wife of the crew's commander, Mark Kelly, is Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. And Giffords was on hand today for the launch, and she even tweeted while there. "Good Morning! Who's ready for the best the show on Earth?," she wrote. That's inspiring stuff.

So, today's events got us thinking about a subject of great import: What are the most important songs regarding space and space travel? The cosmos have always been on the minds of a lot of great musicians and songwriters. It's a serious issue, and it's one we explore with great care. We give you this curated list of what we think the Endeavour crew should be playing.

Did we miss anything?
