Former Texas Rep. Ron Paul says his son, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul (R), “probably will” run for president in 2016.
Paul conceded that the senator is “gonna make up his own mind,” but bluntly said what everyone else has been thinking about the tea party darling’s political aspiriations .
“I think he probably will. I mean, he’s been on TV hinting that he very well might,” Paul said on CNN.
“I kiddingly say that advice I give him is he better be very careful. He’s doing well, he might get elected, and that’s a great burden and a major responsibility,” Paul said. “But I think he’s handling himself quite well.”
Rand Paul has been hinting at his intentions to run for weeks.
Last month, Paul described himself as the kind of candidate America wants as a 2016 contender and last week, Paul said the biggest hurdle to a Paul candidacy was convincing Mrs. Paul.
“There’s two votes in my family,” he said. “My wife has both of them. Both of them are ‘no’ votes right now.”
Paul continued: “So if I’m a very able politician, I’ll tell you in a year whether I’m able to persuade my wife. Right now, I don’t know yet.”
