Bieber Fever lands at 30 Rock: Luke Russert, Morning Joe interns get excited

We might be Morning Joe, but some of us (or at least one of our interns) aren't immune to the charms of some Canadian teen pop.

We might be Morning Joe, but some of us (or at least one of our interns) aren't immune to the charms of some Canadian teen pop. So we dispatched Molly Mitchell to give a quick summation of the Biebs in concert at 30 Rock.

Beiber Fever erupted this morning in 30 Rock Plaza right below the Morning Joe studio. Let's translate that for you: The singer, the singular sensation that is Justin Bieber brought roughly 8,000 of his closest friends (fans) downstairs to the TODAY show.

Luke Russert, who filled in this morning for Willie, couldn't seem to contain his excitement. He even tweeted a photo. Can you feel the excitement and high-pitched screams from tween girls in the air? Thought so.

Throngs of teenage girls and their equally Beiber-crazed moms camped outside to watch Beiber perform. The Beibs, if we may, was in top shape, with his denim-on-denim ensemble (Possible throw back to the 80s? Maybe giving props to the decade before he was born?) and perfectly gelled-up hair ready to rock the heavily teenage-girl and mom filled crowd. It seemed there was no cure for Beiber Fever – the closer Beiber got to his fans the more crazed they became. He sent the majority of the girls in the front row into tizzies when he touched their hands, forcing them to put down the iPhone they were holding up while recording everything to make their Facebook friends jealous.

In addition to performing for Today’s summer concert series, Beiber also sat down for an interview with Matt Lauer. They chatted about Justin’s current world domination with his international tour and  Beiber tried to share his magic by helping Lauer recruit more Twitter followers by hijacking his phone.

But all hair and denim-on-denim jokes aside, there was a touching moment this morning when Justin shared airtime with six-year-old Avalanna Routh. Routh is known around the world as “Mrs. Beiber.” The little girl, who is battling brain cancer, caught Bieber's eye when she performed a wedding ceremony using a paper cutout of the pop star and posted it on Youtube.
