A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll suggests most Americans want congressional leaders to compromise over the debt ceiling. According to the poll, 38 percent of respondents think Congress should raise the debt ceiling.

Mika Brzezinski: “Let’s dive right in. The first question: Should congress raise the debt ceiling?”

Chuck Todd, NBC Chief White House Correspondent: “What’s interesting on this is it’s a 38-31 saying raise it. This is before you explain it. And why is this question important? It’s the first time where just asking the straight question where raise it verses don’t raise it. Which tells you this ‘education campaign’ – whatever you want to call it, all of the attention that’s been brought to it – that the people making the argument for raising the debt ceiling are winning the argument.”
