November 23, 1998 I am in utter fear for Nadia's safety. As the State Department issues statements tellling Americans to come home from the middle east, and security tightens in that region, I can not help but wonder why my child is still considered expendable. The State Department has not called me. I continue to receive letters from all over from people I do not know who support efforts to recover Nadia. I even received a chocolate candy bar today, federal express, from an individual i have never met. I guess since my fast is over, people want to fatten me up. I must have received about 50 letters today. They are very important to me. They re-inforce that there are people who really care about a child...a child they have never met, a child who is in distress. I have never met any of the authors of these letters. Some of them wrote: "I know as a mother there was not anything I would not have done to save my children....You are an inspiration to many of us...." Elaine "Every hour my phone dials the Syrian embassy with a message to let Nadia come home and do the right thing for a child......" Moe "People all over the globe are trying to help you bring her home. You must have faith, now more than ever, that we will succeed in doing this! I personally have sent word of Nadia out to thousands of people...." Julia "I spend hours crying for you and more so crying foryour daughter. I have recently been made very aware of how cruel the Syrian government is......." Rosanne "Our government officials should be ashamed of their impotent attitude...." Annette, California "Maureen, you have my support, admiration and love. YOu are a wonderful mother. One of the best inthe world" Brett, OKlahoma "will not stop until our own government and others hear us and return Nadia home." (no name) "I have informed my father of your plight and he knows a U.S. congressman.....I thnk he would be a great ally..." Teddi "With lots of support from other people we shall getour government involved to helpbring your child home." Elizabeth, Maryland "I am a widow and have 3 children. They are my life. We will not rest until she is home" Kathy If this doesn't work, maybe a march in Washington will!" (NOT SIGNED) I will do whatever it takes to get attention, I mean that and will be doing more this week to try to bring this to the center of National focus." Suzanne, Oklahoma |
