October 23, 1998 I am starting to really feel the weight of my decision to fast. My energy level is getting noticeable lower and I am having to force myself to complete tasks each day. Several critical cases need my attention and I do not want to disappoint the parents that depend on me. I still have heard nothing from any US official regarding my fast except Voice of America. They are terrific. Charles Goolsby called me and stated that they were going to rebroadcast the public service announcement regarding Nadia throughout the middle east again. They broadcast in a variety of languages and ask that anyone with information about Nadia to please contact US authorities or the embassy. Since the US embassy in Damascus refuses to tell me where Nadia is located, perhaps someone can get a message out of Syria and to US authorities. This crazy notion that I might do something to cause an international incident if I were to know my child's location is ludicrous. If she is truly being held by armed gunman, I hardly think anyone would try to rescue her, and certainly I am not about to place my child's life in danger by attempting a rescue that could involve gun fire.
