Vicky, as she was known, left England after her marriage. Her husband shared her liberal political views and opposed the conservative policies of his father's chancellor, Prince Otto von Bismarck. But he died only 99 days after becoming emperor in 1888 and was succeeded by his son. Briefly noted: Victoria (her full name was Victoria Adelaide Mary Louise) maintained an almost daily correspondence with her mother, Queen Victoria, from the time she left England until 1901, when the queen died.
