In our June 16 show, we're being economical

06/16/12 09:16AM

Americans are being bludgeoned with the message that This Election Is About the Economy!!! on a daily, perhaps hourly, basis. Everything else be damned -- money, that's what we want. And it's a smart play by politicians -- particularly our presidential candidates. Whether or not we're politically aware as voters of what President Obama's or Mitt Romney's positions are on issues including the economy, we're aware of what our own bottom line is. read more

Good Look: Black America's political follicles

06/16/12 08:19AM

One of the things that we get the most feedback about here in #nerdland is the fact that our host wears a natural-hair style. (No "creamy crack" as it were.) Paraphrasing Melissa's introduction of the topic last week in her Teachable Moment above, there really are few things as political as the hair that grows out of a black person's head -- particularly the heads of black women. Wearing your politics on your WiFi

06/15/12 03:45PM

"Do WiFi names speak louder than tweets?" A new OpenSignalMaps study asks just that.James Robinson, an Android developer and one of the founders of OpenSignalMaps, was in Buenos Aires recently and looking for a WiFi connection when he noticed the names of three different politicians appearing as SSIDs (WiFi router names) nearby. The discovery led him to wonder how common that was in the United States, and if that made more of a statement than a political tweet — especially given that the average lifespan of a tweet (hint: it's short). read more

We're leading off with this video from this morning's "Morning Joe" which features Massachusetts Senate hopeful Elizabeth Warren offering some of the questions she would've asked JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon yesterday, when he went to Capitol Hill less to testify about and apologize for his company's $3 billion-plus loss, it seems, than to have his ring kissed by Republican senators. Some of the highlights:“You’re obviously renowned, rightfully so I think, as being one of the most, you know, one of the best CEOs in the country for financial institutions,” crooned Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN). read more
