Adding nuance when teaching on slavery
Melissa Harris-Perry reflects on an assignment given to her daughter in school where she was asked to pretend she was a slave who decided to escape from Louisiana to Chicago and map out the distance she needs to travel. “Pretending to be an enslaved person is not an emotionally neutral experience,” she said.
