Virginia is for lovers… and radical right wing candidates geared up to run in the state’s upcoming elections for governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general! On Sunday’s Melissa Harris-Perry, we’ll discuss the lack of continuity between the Republican candidates picked to run in the state’s upcoming races and the moderate political climate we have seen emerge in Virginia as of the last two presidential elections. Host Melissa Harris-Perry will be joined by none other than msnbc’s Steve Kornacki, host of Up with Steve Kornacki. He will help us break down the politics behind the nominations of Ken Cuccinelli, E.W. Jackson and Mark Obenshain. (See Harris-Perry’s open letter to Jackson from Saturday’s show.)
Harris-Perry will also revisit the issue of hunger in America, spotlighting the recent Congressional moves that could literally take food off of tables by decreasing funds for SNAP and limiting who will be eligible to receive these benefits.
Last week, Professor Harris-Perry offered advice to the Class of 2013. She will be highlighting younger students who are taking their futures into their own hands by protesting education budget cuts in Chicago and Philadelphia. She will be joined by nine-year old Asean Johnson–who eloquently voiced his anger at a Chicago Teachers Union rally earlier this week–and Sharron Snyder, a student at Benjamin Franklin High School in Philadelphia, who took part in a mass student walk out earlier this month. (See Asean’s emotional speech below.)
Lastly, #nerdland will debut a new segment Sunday about headlines that just make us shake our heads. Be sure to check it out and see what made us throw up our hands in the newsroom this week.
