Melissa Harris Perry MHP The Syllabus

‘MHP’ Syllabus: 3.14.15

This Saturday on MHP Melissa is back in the studio in New York and there is a whole lot to get to.

First off: Ferguson.

Thursday morning, two Ferguson police officers were shot during a protest outside the police station. Both officers are expected to make a full recovery.  We’ll have the latest on the manhunt for the shooter … but so too will we return to the DOJ report that found Ferguson officers disproportionately targeted African-Americans. The shootings from Thursday overshadowed the fallout from the DOJ’s report … we’ll take the time to explore both stories.

Then, Race Talk. The University of Oklahoma has cut all ties with the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity after a video was posted to YouTube showing members of that fraternity participating in a racist chant. And as sensational as that story was throughout the week, here in nerdland, we’re going to move beyond that video and take the opportunity to explore systemic issues that face college campuses nationwide. Our question: are college campuses welcoming places to students of color or students of limited means? Joining us for this segment is MSNBC Political Analyst Michael Eric Dyson, Associate Professor of Social and Cultural Analysis at NYU Cristina Beltran, Assistant Vice President for Student Diversity at NYU, Monroe France, and Professor of Psychiatry at Vanderbilt University, Dr. Jonathan Metzl.

Also in Saturday’s show:  Lady Legos and the thick fallout from a blurry ruling.
