Cinematic provocateur Oliver Stone visits Martin Friday to discuss his new book, "The Untold History of the United States."

It's the companion volume to Stone's Showtime series of the same name and marks his latest attempt to set the record straight about the role our nation played in the "American Century."

Just like his movies, Stone's version of U.S. history is populated with a long and colorful cast of good guys and bad guys.

We’ll have much more on the new project this afternoon…but for now, here’s a look back at some of Stone’s classic work.

Admittedly, with a cannon like his, we couldn’t possibly cover every base.

But here’s a sampling of 10.

And we remind you, these are Oliver Stone films that earned their R-ratings.

Consider that when Wayne LaPierre held his infamous news conference on December 14, one of two films he cited by name in as symptoms of a broader media cultural decline was Stone's "Natural Born Killers" - a film made way back in 1994.

Clearly, it's a point of view Stone does fails to share.

Platoon (1986)

Wall Street (1987)

Born on the Fourth of July (1989)*

JFK (1991)

Talk Radio (1988)**

Natural Born Killers (1994)***

W. (2008)

Savages (2012)

Bonus -- from the screenplay file:

Scarface (1983)

Double Bonus – it is the start of the NFL playoffs after all…

Any Given Sunday (1999)
