Twelve days to go and President Obama will again spend the day crisscrossing the country – hitting four states – including his home state of Illinois, where he will vote early.

On the flip side, his opponent, Gov. Mitt Romney is locked down in Ohio, where he will hold three events.

We don’t need any more evidence of the importance of the Buckeye State. You’ve likely heard the battleground refrain: no Republican candidate has ever won the White House without carrying Ohio.

A new Time poll shows the president carrying a 5-point edge (49% to 44%) in a state with a manufacturing base that has benefited immensely from the salvaged auto industry and as the New York Times reports, Romney may be upbeat on the trail but the electoral college math remains the same.

One thing is for sure today, it’s no accident Romney has put all his eggs in a Buckeye basket.
