New biopic “Jobs,” about Apple co-founder and tech pioneer Steve Jobs, hits theaters Friday. The movie’s director, Joshua Stern, said to Jansing & Co. that he wanted “to make a movie that means something, that has a message about one of the most important people in history.”
Stern said he tried to portray a full ‘warts and all’ characterization of Steve Jobs by detailing the CEO’s uncompromising obsession, which often left him alienated and misunderstood.
“His products were how he showed love,” Stern said. “And the movie sort of amplifies how his personal relationship suffered, but the way that he was able to really go out there into the world and express himself was getting things to people that made their life easier the way we communicate and live our lives, and that is how he expressed himself.”
The movie’s message is about realizing individual potential and using it to influence the world, Stern said.
“It’s the fact that you have to build your life and not just live it,” he said. “To me that was Steve’s legacy. He was just a guy in a garage that created this invention that became and turned into the largest in the world, and that’s everyman. That’s anybody out there with a dream.”
