The Oscars combine two of my favorite things: movies and politics. I spent nearly two and a half years in Los Angeles as an NBC correspondent. Like DC, it’s a company town, it’s about contacts and charisma and there’s no shortage of intrigue and infighting. And never is that politicking more on display than during the awards season.
I was there in 2009, the year a little upstart movie called Slumdog Millionaire upset the big studio favorites and won Best Picture. In many other ways, it was a fascinating Oscar season, and it’s fun to look back.
“Flashback Friday” is a meander down memory lane of stories I’ve covered over the years and that may just spark some memories of your own. My team has worked hard scouring our archives and we hope you like them. Tweet me at @jansingco and let us know what you think!
