Democrats and the White House are accusing Republicans of obstructionism after GOP senators blocked a committee vote on the nomination of Gina McCarthy as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.

Senate Environment Committee Chairwoman Barbara Boxer, a California Democrat, says McCarthy has answered an unprecedented number of questions—more than 1,000 from Republicans. But GOP senators boycotted Thursday's vote to on McCarthy's nomination, saying she hadn't given complete answers.

Former Pennsylvania Representative Joe Sestak, a Democrat, blames both parties for the gridlock.

"We have lost that type of accountable leadership that we need to move this nation forward," he said on Jansing & Co.  "It's just the Hatfields and the McCoys."

Earlier this week, Republicans also postponed a vote on Labor Secretary nominee Tom Perez .
