Tina Fey: Akin's views on rape are 'making me dumber'

Actress and comedian Tina Fey has had it with men trying to define rape, and she's not afraid to say it out loud.

Actress and comedian Tina Fey has had it with men trying to define rape, and she's not afraid to say it out loud.

Fey spoke Wednesday night at the Center for Reproductive Rights Inaugural Gala in New York City about the growing number of Republican politicians attempting to define rape and its consequences.

"I wish we could have an honest and respectful dialogue about these complicated issues, but it seems like we can't right now," Fey said. "If I have to listen to one more gray-faced man with a two-dollar haircut explain to me what rape is, I'm gonna lose my mind."

Fey also singled out Missouri Senate candidate Rep. Todd Akin for his remarks in August about pregnancy from rape.

"Todd Akin claims that women can't really get pregnant from a legitimate rape because the body secretes hormones - no, I can't even finish this sentence without getting dumber. It's making me dumber when I say it," Fey said.

Guests at the gala were encouraged to support the Draw the Line campaign and sign the Bill of Reproductive Rights. Draw the Line has produced videos online featuring stars from Meryl Streep to Amy Poeher to Kevin Bacon, encouraging people to join the cause.
