Two Republican senators are nearing a deal to make comprehensive immigration reform more palatable to their party. Sens. Bob Corker and John Hoeven are trying to find a way to tighten border security to attract Republican votes without alienating Democrats.

The New York Times profiles Ken Mehlman and his efforts to legalize gay marriage. Mehlman ran George W. Bush’s 2004 re-election campaign, which used same-sex marriage as a wedge issue that helped them win the pivotal state of Ohio.

Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska says she supports marriage equality. She becomes the third Republican senator to do so.
