INAUGURATION TUESDAY: Chris Christie was sworn in Tuesday for his second term as New Jersey governor. But rather than a victory lap, Christie is currently buried under a pile of developing investigations over accusations of political retribution.

Allegations of bullying from the Christie administration have not stopped since emails were revealed earlier this month suggesting Christie was involved in a massive traffic incident last year. And on Monday, nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis claims that Christie intimidated him from running for State Senate in 2011.

POLITICAL SURVIVAL: How bad does the Republican Party need Chris Christie? In a new Daily Beast column, Michael Tomasky argues: really bad. If the GOP wants to avoid the circus that was the 2012 primary, they'll have to come together to support one candidate--and not just "settle" for one the way they appeared to with Mitt Romney. Christie, who represents the GOP "establishment," has the opportunity in the year ahead to cement his role as a party leader who can also take on the "liberal media" if he survives this scandal-ridden storm.

PUTIN'S PROBLEMS: The Winter Olympics will begin in February under the close eyes of Russian security officials. According to NBC News, three young Muslim women (known as "black widow" terror suspects) are believed to be planning suicide bomb attacks to disrupt the final stages of the Olympic torch relay. The terror alert comes weeks after a series of suicide bomb attacks in the country.

OBAMA GOES TO ROME: The president will visit Pope Francis at the Vatican in March, according to the White House. The visit will be part of President Obama's trip through Europe for the Nuclear Security Summit that will be held in the Netherlands and the U.S.-EU Summit in Brussels.
