Bad time to put your money where your mouth is? As hurricane Irene barrels toward the east coast, we’re asking Republican lawmakers—the ones who’ve been denouncing the government for outsized spending—if they’ll accept federal aid dollars once Irene damages their states and districts. Governor and DGA Chair Martin O’Malley (D-MD) and Former Governor Ed Rendell (D-PA) are here to weigh in.

And it’s not just Irene and Tuesday’s earthquake that are hitting Washington hard: Vice President Dick Cheney has some choice words for former colleagues Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell and others he served with in the nation’s capital. Cheney said it himself in an interview with NBC: “There are gonna be heads exploding all over Washington.” New York Times Reporter Charlie Savage reveals some of the book’s best bits in his story today, including that Cheney says he urged President Bush to bomb Syria in 2007, and we’ll have clips from NBC’s exclusive interview with Cheney. Savage and Chicago Tribune Columnist Clarence Page are here to discuss.

Rick Perry’s number one in a lot of things: State job creation, he’ll tell you, and public support for his presidential bid, according to yesterday’s Gallup poll. He’s also number one when it comes to the most executions performed in any state since he took office as Texas Governor nearly 11 years ago. Texas has seen 234 executions under Perry—that’s more than the next two highest states combined. And Perry’s stance? “If you don’t support the death penalty and citizens packing a pistol, don’t come to Texas!” That’s from his book Fed Up. We’ll talk about Perry’s record with Jordan Steiker from the University of Texas Law School and Kent Scheidegger from the Criminal Justice Legal Foundation.

And finally, we’ve got the latest installment in The Palin-Rove Smackdown, all revolving around whether Palin serious about running for President. The Washington Post’s Nia-Malika Henderson and The Huffington Post’s Sam Stein join us with the latest.
