Vice President Joe Biden made an appearance Thursday night on the Late Show with David Letterman to read a humorous "Top 10" list with good reasons to vote early.

"It's vastly more effective than voting late," the vice president joked.

Biden has been on the campaign trail in key battleground states this week while President Obama's attention has been on the East Coast and the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

The list featured a dig at Donald Trump and memorable phrases from the vice president himself, including his assertion that people who vote early are "people with a backbone like a ramrod."

"Not exercising your right to vote is malarkey," Biden said. "It's literally malarkey!"

Biden also joked about using early voting lines to find dates. "Single and looking to mingle? Find that special someone in the early voting line.”

Early voting is possible in 32 states and the District of Columbia, including key states such as Ohio and Florida. The Associated Press reports about 22 million people have already voted in this year's election.

"Honestly, don't you want this election over with already?" Biden concluded.
