Gun owners and gun control advocates will hear a detailed and sweeping proposal from President Obama on Wednesday. The action promised after the tragedy in Newtown is expected to include a ban on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines.

In Wednesday’s opinion pages: former District of Columbia prosecutor Jeffrey Scott Shapiro expresses skepticism in The Wall Street Journal over the impact new gun restrictions will have based off of past experience enforcing a gun ban in our nation’s capital. The New York Times’ Maureen Dowd wonders where the thrill within the Obama presidency has gone, and why the president has trouble connecting with other lawmakers.
