The Trail: Can Bill Clinton save Democrats in Arkansas?

If you're a Democratic senator running for re-election in a red state, who do you call on for help?

If you're a Democratic senator running for re-election in a red state, who do you call on for help? If you're in Arkansas, the answer is simple: President Bill Clinton will be making one of his many visits back to his home state to give struggling Sen. Mark Pryor a boost in the home stretch.

A FAVORABLE BOOST?: The former president and Arkansas governor is spending a little time in his home state to help three Democrats who are facing uphill battles against Republican challengers. Clinton still remains a star figure in the Natural State, but will his stumping for incumbent Sen. Mark Pryor, gubernatorial candidate Mike Ross, and congressional candidate Patrick Henry Hays secure victories in November? If the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News/Annenberg survey is any indicator of what's to come, perhaps it will: 38% of voters polled say an endorsement from Clinton is favorable, compared to 24% who say a Clinton endorsement makes a candidate less favorable. 'VOTE YOUR HEART': Clinton urged a crowd on Monday in Arkansas to not let the midterm elections be a vote against President Obama. "They want you to make this a protest vote," Clinton said. "They're saying, 'You may like these guys, but hey, you know what you gotta do, you gotta vote against the president...Don't vote for what they tell you you have to be against. Vote for what you know you should be for." (More: Politico)

LASTING STAR POWER: In her latest dispatch from Arkansas, MSNBC's Kasie Hunt reports, "The Clinton name is so good [in Arkansas] that even Cotton, the very-conservative congressman running against Pryor, wouldn’t touch it. He praised Clinton’s presidency, arguing that his governing style was significantly different from President Obama’s." (More: msnbc.com)
