Pakistani teen activist Malala Yousafzai, who has taken up the charge for equal rights for girls’ education after being shot in the head by the Taliban last fall, received the Tipperary International Peace Award Tuesday in Ireland.

She joined the ranks of Benazir Bhutto, the slain Pakistani Prime Minister whose shawl Yousafzai wore while speaking before the U.N. on her 16th birthday earlier this year. Past winners also include Bill Clinton, Nelson Mandela, and Ted Kennedy.
