From a nation where music was banned for years under Taliban rule, now boys and girls play side by side in the 48-member Afghan Youth Orchestra. With support from the U.S. State Department, the World Bank and others, the group of students from the Afghan National Institute of Music embarked on a two-week U.S. tour, including a performance at Washington D.C.’s famed Kennedy Center Thursday night.
