Maddow: DOMA ruling 'will be a hugely practical step forward' for same-sex couples

The Supreme Court has ruled that same sex couples cannot be denied the right to marry according to the constitutional guarantee of equal protection under the law, saying the federal government can't make distinctions between couples. In addition to overturning the Defense of Marriage Act, the court's 5-4 ruling on Proposition 8 opened the door to the resumption of gay marriages in California.
