All In Agenda: The second term downward spiral

By Rachel Simon

Thursday night on All In with Chris Hayes: President Obama has fallen victim to the same second term downward spiral as his predecessor, George W. Bush, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll. A Virginia gubernatorial election fell in both presidents’ fifth year in office, but thanks to the rise of the Tea Party, the political environment in the commonwealth has shifted significantly since ‘05. Guest host Steve Kornacki will look at Obama’s ratings fall through the lens of the VA race with E.J. Dionne, Washington Post Columnist and Senior Fellow at The Brookings Institution, Josh Barro, Politics Editor at Business Insider, and Rep. Gerry Connolly of Virginia.

Plus: Kornacki will explain how Chris Christie is becoming the GOP’s ideal 2016 candidate and it’s the Democrats’ own fault.

Demcrats have another issue brewing - holding on to their Senate majority. Steve Kornacki will discuss why the south will be crucial for Dems in 2014.

Later, Toronto Mayor Rob Ford returns to the spotlight with the news that police have finally found the infamous crack smoking video Ford claimed didn’t exist.

Former Mayor Willie Brown of San Francisco, Rep. G.K. Butterfield of North Carolina and Hilary Shelton, Director of the NAACP Washignton Bureau, will also join Steve Kornacki to explain why it’s not an accident that newly-sworn in Senator Cory Booker is only the ninth African-American to serve in Congress’ upper chamber.
