1. Today you would be hard-pressed to find an American who does not recognize Nelson Mandela as a hero, but during the anti-apartheid movement many American Conservatives coalesced around preserving the apartheid regime. First President Ronald Reagan placed Mandela's resistance group - African National Congress - on a terrorist list and in 1986 he vetoed the Comprehensive Anti-Apartheid Act. Chris Hayes discusses American conservative reluctance to supporting the anti-apartheid movement with author, Thomas Franks and California Rep. Maxine Waters.
