1. Mercury is the only metal that is also a liquid at room temperature. When introduced to different sound frequencies, it begins to dance. It's almost enough to make you want to retake Physics. Almost.

2. A 1963 Supreme Court ruling ensured the right to council to anyone who wanted it. This particularly significant decision guaranteed those who could not afford a lawyer, the right to one. But, fifty years later there are questions about how well the system is serving its underprivileged---one man languished in jail for 5 years before the state could come up with the money to appoint him a lawyer.  Mother Jones released a set of charts showing  the abysmal state of public defense in America.

3. Marine scientist Cassandra Brooks attached a camera to the front of her crew's Antarctica ice-breaker boat. The footage from their 2-month long voyage, documenting the movement and nature of ice was collapsed into this intriguing 5-minute video.
